Intellectual and Developmental Alternative to Incarceration Program (IDDATI)

The IDDATI program is a highly specialized diversion program offered exclusively by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office that focuses on individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities charged with a crime. IDDATI participants are identified through the referral process and assessed for eligibility through a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist and the review of historical information. Due to the specific needs of this population, IDDATI requirements are tailored to each participant who is then closely monitored and assisted through intensive case management. The goal of the program is to facilitate a greater understanding for participants of the behavior that led to arrest in an effort avoid further justice involvement. Additionally, IDDATI focuses on promoting behavior regulation, skill development and environmental support for a population with static impairment that cannot be improved through treatment. Co-occurring substance misuse and mental health challenges are also identified and addressed in the program. Successful completion of the IDDATI program is measured by adherence to program guidelines and is determined by the District Attorney’s Office, the Court and the case management team.
