Special Victims Unit

The Special Victims Unit of the Rockland County District Attorney's Office is responsible for the prosecution of all cases throughout the county involving Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Physical and Sexual Abuse of Children, as well as the abuse the Elderly and other vulnerable populations. The mission of this unit is to aggressively pursue justice, while also accounting for the sensitive nature of these cases and the unique needs of our victims.

The unit is staffed by a group of attorneys with specialized knowledge and training necessary for overcoming the challenging dynamics associated with these types of crimes. The attorneys assigned to this unit work closely with local law enforcement on these cases, beginning in the investigative stages. In addition to law enforcement, our attorneys also work closely with victim advocates, Child Protective Services (CPS), and other professionals employed in these specialized areas. The goal of these collaborative relationships is to strengthen the prosecutions of the office and to provide support to victims, while also aiming to minimize further trauma. All of these partners are members of a multi-disciplinary team that are located in the same building, the District Attorney's Office Special Victims Center.

The Special Victims Center is a secure location, apart from the District Attorney's Office and courthouse, designed to provide our victims with a much softer, more comfortable setting. Victims who visit the Special Victims Center can address needs related to medical treatment and victim advocacy, while also dealing with matters involving this office and CPS. Our goal is to provide convenience to victims and their families during what we believe are some of the more difficult points during their lives.
