SPRING VALLEY MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUALLY ABUSING A CHILD OVER THE COURSE OF THREE YEARS
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today the plea of guilty by Evelio Mendez, 41 of Spring Valley, New York to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree (Class B Felony).
From September 1st, 2020, through September 30th, 2023, Mendez, engaged in a course of sexual abuse which started when the victim was 8 years old and lasted until she was 11 years old. Mendez was dating the victim’s mother at the time of the sexual abuse.
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh said, “The defendant in this case has pleaded guilty to the despicable act of sexually abusing a minor. Our children are our most precious resource, and I will continue to do everything in my power as District Attorney to protect them. The defendant will be sentenced to a lengthy prison term and have to register as a sex offender.”
Sentencing on this matter has been scheduled for May 5, 2024, Mendez will be sentenced by the Honorable Anne Bianchi. The defendant will be sentenced to ten years in state prison along with ten years post release supervision. Mendez will also have to register as a sex offender. The investigation was conducted by the Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit.
The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Devlin.
