ROCKLAND COUNTY GRAND JURY DISMISSES MURDER CHARGE AGAINST STONY POINT MAN
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that a Rockland County Grand Jury has voted to dismiss the charge of Murder in the Second Degree against Javier Medina, 21 of Stony Point, New York.
On September 17, 2022, at approximately 11:34 pm, the Stony Point Police Department responded to 101 Mott Farm Road, Tompkins Cove, New York upon report of a male shot. Upon arrival officers located Jason Colwell, age 47, deceased inside of the residence from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. At that time, Javier Medina, who was a resident of 101 Mott Farm Road was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Murder in the Second Degree.
The Office of the Medical Examiner of Rockland County conducted an autopsy upon the body of Jason Colwell and ruled his death a homicide. Police officers and detectives from the Stony Point Police Department, working in conjunction with Assistant District Attorneys from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office interviewed multiple witnesses, viewed hours of video surveillance, and reviewed downloads of several cellular telephones and conducted a thorough investigation into the homicide.
he matter was presented to the first term of the Grand Jury of Rockland County for their review of the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting and death of Jason Colwell. After hearing all of the critical and essential evidence, the Grand Jury voted to dismiss the charge of Murder in the Second Degree against Javier Medina. Such action by the Grand Jury has concluded the prosecution of this case.
District Attorney Thomas E.
