15-YEAR-OLD INDICTED FOR POSSESSION OF A WEAPON IN NANUET HIGH SCHOOL
Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today the indictment of a 15-year-old student for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon on school grounds.
The Second Term of the Grand Jury of Rockland County indicted a 15-year-old male juvenile offender on the above charges in relation to his possession of a loaded .380 caliber pistol inside of Nanuet High School on January 30, 2023. Upon receiving information that this student was in possession of a firearm, teachers and school administrators took swift action and notified the Town of Clarkstown Police Department. The School Resource Officer and detectives from the Clarkstown Police Department responded and took possession of the weapon. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation, reviewing video surveillance and conducting interviews, which resulted in the arrest of the defendant.
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, βThe safety of our children while in school is paramount. I want to thank the teachers, school administrators, and officers from the Clarkstown Police Department for their quick and responsible actions to protect all the students and faculty within Nanuet High School. The illegal possession of a firearm will not be tolerated in Rockland County, especially in our schools.β
As the defendant is a juvenile offender no further information will be released at this time. Senior Assistant District Attorney Nicole Garcia is assigned to the case.
It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
